Depression

  • What is depression?

Most people feel sad at times. It’s a normal reaction to loss or life's struggles. But when intense sadness -- including feeling helpless, hopeless, and worthless -- lasts for many days to weeks and keeps you from living your life, it may be something more than sadness. You could have a depressive disorder. Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, think, and act. Common symptoms are persistent sad or down mood, lack of motivation, loss of interest in activities, and sleep issues, to name a few.

  • How is it treated?

Our therapists are trained in multiple forms of psychotherapy techniques. These include CBT, psychodynamic therapy, emotional freedom technique, solution-focused therapy, holistic therapy, and psychoeducation. We believe that each client is different and requires a unique treatment plan. Being a holistic practice, we look at each client as a whole and take into account your physical health, medications, exercise, spirituality, and mental health when assessing for the proper treatment.

  • Is it curable?

There’s no cure for depression, but you still have plenty of options for treatment, all of which can improve your symptoms and minimize their impact on your daily life.

It is essential to know that depression tends to occur in episodes. For instance, you can go years between having bouts of depression.
